Part 3: The Irresistible Duty and the Shadow of Exile
“I can’t escape.”
He spoke suddenly, his gaze lifting toward the sky.
There was fear in his eyes.
He spoke of how, once upon a time, when his empire was on the brink of collapse, a shadowy organization had extended a hand to him.
That debt, that loyalty, had now transformed into a weighty “duty” that crushed his every move.
“I truly… love America,” he said.
“But to protect it, I must destroy it.”
A paradox at its most extreme.
Yet, when he said it, I didn’t sense any lie in his words.
There was, without a doubt, a genuine affection for his homeland buried deep inside him.
But now, that very love had turned into one of the cards he was forced to play—a weapon, a threat.
Guaranteeing his life. Ensuring his family’s safety.
All of it had become part of the “shadow contract.”
Exile—he had already simulated that choice in his mind countless times.
At one point, plans were even in place to escape to a certain country.
But the information had leaked.
“Am I even allowed to run away…”
He muttered, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
